Ask Mom

In a Quandary

Dear Mom, How often is too often for someone to ask you for your notes and how do you politely tell them no? Generally, I don't mind sharing my notes but the person has asked that I copy my notes into an e-mail. When I give them the opportunity to copy my hand written notes they will still ask me to e-mail them. Sincerely, In a Quandary Post the First Comment

Student LookBook

Michele Boucher (newspaper dress)

I wanted to take a special look at news media for this week's LookBook. I am going to focus on Michelle Boucher, a former SLCC fashion student. Michelle created a dress for her Introduction to Fashion class for her final project a few years ago. The criteria for the project are that the students not sew a single stitch on the garment and it is encouraged that students use creative, out of the ordinary supplies or objects in place of fabric.… Post the First Comment

Wonderland trumps Pandora

After his darkly comic reinterpretations of classics such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Batman Forever, it's no surprise that tickets sold out days in advance by audiences eager to witness Tim Burton's take on Alice's fall down the rabbit hole. His Alice in Wonderland is a quirky follow to Lewis Carroll's original works, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, painting a much different and idiosyncratic take on the source material than the 1951 animated Disney classic.… Post the First Comment

Letter to the Editor

I never, ever wanted to pursue anything at all remotely related to journalism. After moving from Texas in the summer, I decided to start looking for a job on campus, saw an ad for the newspaper and thought I'd try out for an editing position. Of course, then, I didn't realize you have to have experience before becoming an editor and being an editor involves a lot more than just proofreading text.… Post the First Comment

Is the tuition increase necessary?

Is the tuition increase necessary? This is the question that many have struggled to answer ever since the proposed tuition increase forum, which was held in the student event center over a week ago. Tuition increase is a necessary course of action in order for Salt Lake Community College to continue giving students the low cost quality education they have received thus far, while still keeping a balanced budget.… Post the First Comment
